Introduction
The PortaPack H4M is a stand-alone, all-in-one portable SDR built on the HackRF platform. The pre-installed MAYHEM software provides ready-to-use workflows for band scanning, spectrum viewing, data logging, and on-device utilities—ideal for education, prototyping, and lab measurements.
This bundle pairs the HackRF with the PortaPack in a durable, injection-molded ABS case, so you won’t need any extra hardware, cables, or soldering—everything is fully assembled and ready to go.
Compared with setups that require a computer from the start, H4M adds a compact, touch interface that works independently for on-the-go learning and testing.
The H4M Advantages
The PortaPack H4M is the first fully integrated, all-in-one solution in the PortaPack series. Unlike earlier models, which faced challenges with usability, power efficiency, and overall performance, the H4M brings several improvements. It features a redesigned architecture that offers enhanced functionality, as well as the latest version of HackRF hardware and firmware—Rev 10.
1. Matte Screen
The upgraded matte-finish screen offers high visibility, ensuring clear readability even in bright outdoor conditions.
2. GPIO Ports
The addition of the GPIO port enables the connection of add-on accessories, shields, and sensors.
3. Redesigned Power System
The power system has been completely revamped to include:
- Unified Power On/Off Switch
- New Advanced battery management architecture
- Fast Charging via USB-C
- No power leakage or battery drain
4. Internal / External Mic + Speaker Toggle
The built-in sliding switch enables quick switching between the internal and external microphone/headphone inputs.
5. Redesigned navigation wheel
The new low-profile navigation wheel, combined with directional buttons, enables quicker navigation while minimizing the risk of damage when the device is not in use.
6. Integrated Microphone
The newly integrated on-board microphone enables the H4M to function as a complete voice transceiver.

Easily perform raw signal capture - for instant replay, or for offline demodulation, analysis and modification.
Signal Replay
Oranised and Replay raw signals - directly after capture, or from the SD card or from otther sources.
Signal Detection
Detect and identify the frequency of nearby transmission sources. Useful for reconaissance and identifcation.
Frequency Scanner
Constantly scan a configurable range of frequencies to consecutively or in parallel..
